According to the union, the days will be used in a timely manner. Collective agreements expired 18 months ago.

“We know that everyone involved is exhausted and in need of support,” said negotiator Anne-Marie Bellerose.

The federation met with the minister responsible for the administration of the government, Sonia LeBel, on Tuesday and appreciated her openness to find solutions to the negotiations.

No offers were made at the meeting.

The union is leaving room for negotiations in the coming days, while the next meeting is scheduled for October 7.

Therefore, the strike days are not expected to be used before this date, said the president of the FIPEQ-CSQ, Valérie Grenon.

The federation seeks salary increases, as well as a “COVID bonus”, highlighting that the service offered by daycare centers was considered an essential service during the pandemic.

FIPEQ represents 13,000 members in various child care services, including CPEs.

The federation of the Centrale des union du Québec also calls for a minimum level of employment for those who support educators: maintenance workers, specialized educators and others.
