Quebec adds 42 new COVID-19 deaths as hospitalizations fall again | The Canadian News

Hospitalizations continued to decline in Quebec as the province reported 42 new pandemic-related deaths on Thursday.

There was a decrease of 93 for a total of 2,637 hospitalizations linked to COVID-19. Of these, 191 people were in intensive care, a decrease of 13 compared to the previous day.

Health officials say 193 patients were admitted to the hospital while 286 left over the past 24-hour period.

Quebec also recorded 3,592 new cases of coronavirus as part of its daily count. The government says this score is not representative of the situation as screening facilities are limited to priority groups.

Quick tests for high school students

Quebec will begin providing COVID-19 high-speed tests to high school students over the next few days.

The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that rapid tests will also be given to students in adult education and vocational training centers. The province has set aside a total of 3.5 million tests.

“This measure aims to reduce the risk of outbreaks in schools,” the ministry said in a statement.

Prior to the move, educational institutions could only conduct rapid tests on site – and not send packets home with students.

The Ministry of Health says it will also hand out more boxes with quick tests in pre-schools and primary schools at the end of February.
