Proposal of deputies not to collect water bills threatens the finances of Water and Drainage: Canaco Monterrey

Monterey, NL. The National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Monterrey (Canaco Servytur Monterrey) expressed his concern at the proposal made by local deputies to cancel the collection of water bills, given the shortage that has arisen due to the water crisis facing the state of Nuevo León.

“We believe that this initiative would undermine the finances of Agua y Drainaje de Montereywhich could weaken its operation in one of its most critical moments, and in which its strengthening should be sought to face the crisis that the state is going through in the face of water scarcity,” the agency said in a statement.

Canaco’s opinion is that any consumption made by citizens or companies must be covered, at the same time Water and sewer system must strictly charge what corresponds by law for the consumption of users.

“The proposal of the deputies could be detrimental to the population, because if the service failed one day at the beginning of the month, it would cause the user not to pay for that month, so that Water and Drainage would not have an incentive to maintain the supply for the month, since I would not charge it, ”said the agency.

The general director of Water and Drainage Services of Monterrey, Juan Ignacio Barragán Villarreal warned this morning: “Regarding the issue of Congress, in Water and Drainage we have already indicated our position, if we stopped receiving income, we would have to suspend the activities; we have enough money in cash for 15 days, from then on we would no longer have money to pay the payroll and we would have to suspend the service”.

call for dialogue

Canaco Servytur Monterrey, as well as the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) Nuevo León, called for a climate of dialogue and negotiation between the executive and legislative branches of the state.

In turn, Coparmex New Lion He pointed out that he sees with concern how the political environment of the state and the struggle of the past months between both powers is affecting the inhabitants of Nuevo León.

“It is extremely serious that there are those who seek to take political advantage of a crisis of the magnitude that we are experiencing. This is the moment in which we must all focus on finding solutions and collaborating to face a historic drought.”

“As it is popularly said: ‘he who is not going to help should not get in the way’. At this time all distractions and struggles for political and party interests must be put aside. They get in the way ”, stressed the employer sector of Nuevo León.
