Firefighters were called to a commercial building on Royalmount Ave., near Royden Rd., Friday night around 10 pm, police spokesperson Véronique Comtois said Saturday.

While Comtois wouldn’t name the business, a fire department spokesperson said the incident occurred at 5460 Royalmount, which is Aviron’s street address. Nobody at the institute could be reached for comment around midday Saturday.

The blaze had mostly been extinguished by the building’s sprinklers when firefighters arrived, Comtois said. On location, they found elements that suggested the fire could be criminal in nature, and the file was transferred to the police department, she said.

Arson squad investigators are now trying to determine the exact cause of the blaze, Comtois said. No suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made as of yet.
