Peru’s economic activity grows 3.47% year-on-year in November

The economic activity grew up in Peru 3.47% last November over the same month of 2020, due to a recovery after overcoming the recession caused by the pandemicthe government reported on Sunday.

“National production in the month of October 2021 registered an increase of 3.47%, based on the positive evolution of most sectors of the economy with the exception of mining, construction and finance,” said the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in a report.

The basis for comparison is November 2020, when “a series of productive activities began to be reactivated” due to the pandemic, the INEI recalled.

According to the result, Peruvian production increased from January to November by 14.68% compared to the same period in 2020. Growth in the past 12 months was 13.26 percent.

The central bank anticipates an increase in START of 13.2% for 2021, after raising its initial estimate of 10.5 percent.

The sectors that showed the greatest dynamism in November were lodging Y restaurants (48,63%), transport (13.88%) and fishing (13%), indicated the INEI.

Only the sectors of mining (5.29%) and construction (5.78%).

As a consequence of the pandemic, the Peruvian GDP contracted 11.12% in 2020, the worst performance in the last three decades.

Peru semi-paralyzed its economy for more than 100 days between March 15 and July 1, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, which led to a recession.

The Andean country came out of the recession in the second quarter of 2021.
