Pandemic changed investment habits: BlackRock

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way and the strategies in which investors invest their resources, said Mark Mccombe, senior executive director at BlackRock, the world’s largest fund manager.

During his participation in the 2021 Digital Meeting, organized by the Mexican Association of Retirement Fund Administrators (Amafore), the manager explained that as a result of the pandemic, institutional investors around the world have focused on placing their assets in resilient businesses .

He commented that investors, at least in the short term, have had to look for alternatives in their investments, in order to be able to grow their portfolios in the midst of the health crisis.

Evolution in society has contributed to changes on the part of customers, leading them to opt for alternative investments.

The specialist explained that “there is a fear of being left out by individuals and companies, that is why they seek to diversify their investments. The reason these are called alternatives is because they are not as liquid as classic assets that can be quickly withdrawn. They are longer term ”.

Mark Mccombe said that among the main topics to be discussed in the investment world from now on are how the post-covid market is, what will change permanently and what will remain, in addition to inflation and what this will represent in terms of creating resilient and sustainable investment portfolios for the future.

The BlackRock executive mentioned that people around the world are not saving enough for their retirement, however, in the midst of one of the most challenging times for humanity such as the Covid-19 pandemic, some have realized that the opportunity that every crisis brings and they have had a positive reallocation of assets in their portfolios taking into account different risk scenarios.
