Over $ 22 Million in Illegal Cannabis Seized During Operation in the Niagara – Hamilton Region | The Canadian News

More than $ 22 million in products from an unauthorized marijuana grow were seized by a joint task force in the Niagara region on Thursday, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

On Tuesday, investigators released details of an operation that prevented 181 kilograms of illegally processed cannabis from reaching the market and dismantled 21,000 illegal plants in a pair of greenhouses.

OPP says the raids occurred at four locations on October 14 at two grow operations and two residences in Vineland and St. Catharines.

Six people from Ontario were arrested in the middle of the police action and all faced the same charges: possession for the purpose of trafficking and harvesting cannabis in a place that was not their residence.

The defendants come from Toronto and St. Catharines and their ages range between 34 and 67 years.

All will appear in a St. Catharines court on December 23.

The investigation is ongoing, according to OPP.
