Ottawa Police Arrest Man Accused of Detonating Small Household Explosives in Centertown – Ottawa | The Canadian News

Ottawa police say they have arrested a man who allegedly set up a series of small explosive devices in the Centretown area in recent weeks.

Police said Friday they began investigating several “detonations” reported in the area on Aug. 3.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

On Thursday, police were called to the 300 block of Centretown, where a caller reported that a man had planted “what appeared to be a small explosive device.”

The agents who attended located and subsequently arrested the man.

“The homemade devices in these cases demonstrated the potential to cause harm to anyone in close proximity to the detonations,” police said in a statement Friday. Police did not provide a more detailed description of the devices when asked.

Gordon Ahlstrom, a 51-year-old Ottawa man, is charged with five counts of mischief / obstruction of property and four counts of attempting to cause explosions / causing damage or death.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
