Old Montreal’s Hôtel Le St-James set to close, report says

Old Montreal’s esteemed Hôtel Le St-James, a luxury boutique hotel that was popular with celebrities and a hot spot during Grand Prix weekend, is set to close for good, La Presse reported on Friday.

According to the newspaperthe building’s owners now intend to give it a “residential vocation.”

The hotel had been in limbo after a long closure during the COVID-19 pandemic. A year ago, its telephone line had become out of service and its online reservation system was shut down.

Opened in 2002, the St-James was one of Montreal’s most luxurious hotels. It had become popular with celebrities through the years, hosting the likes of Mick Jagger, Elton John, Madonna, Britney Spears, and Jon Bon Jovi.
