No one was injured after a shooter fired at a packed Corydon nightclub – Winnipeg | The Canadian News

Partygoers at a popular Corydon Avenue bar were unharmed but shocked after a shooter fired at the establishment early Saturday morning.

Witnesses told Global News that a man was being escorted out of Bar Italia by security personnel shortly after midnight, and he repeatedly tried to re-enter.

As the gorillas stood their ground, witnesses reported seeing the man on his phone.

Moments later, about half a dozen shots rang out in the crowded nightclub, smashing a front window.

“There was a lot of noise there,” witness Shawn Eisler told 680 CJOB. “So they all jumped on deck and tried to find some cover.”

“I had no idea what was going on until I saw (my friend) running towards me with panic on his face.”

“I was at the bar having drinks, and suddenly (our friend) came up to us and told us there were shots,” he explained.

“We went to the VLT area and hid for a minute,” Ransom recalled. “Everyone was hiding behind the tables, I looked around the corner and there were lights.”

Ransom says more than a dozen officers from the Winnipeg Police Service were on the scene just a couple of minutes after the shooting.

By that time, the alleged assailant had made his way into the bar.

“(The officers) threw him to the ground and handcuffed him.”

Eisler said the officers’ quick response helped reassure the shocked crowd.

“They kept us there for probably 45 minutes, taking everyone’s information before letting us go.”

Police have yet to respond to nearly a dozen calls from Global News, asking for confirmation of the arrest.
