Nearly 1,000 new cases in Quebec

Quebec recorded nearly 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, while Ontario remains below 900 daily cases.

La Belle Province added 995 new infections – up from 879 on Friday – in its balance sheet on Saturday, as well as three additional deaths.

To date, 397,029 Quebecers have fallen ill and 11,304 have died from complications.

Hospitalizations across Quebec continue to increase (218, +11), as does the number of intensive care patients (75, +3).

The vaccination rate for those aged 12 and over in Quebec is 88.5% for one dose, and 81.2% for two doses.

“The cases continue to increase, we expected with the re-entry. What concerns us, among other things, are the hospital news: +36 admissions including 32 people not adequately vaccinated ”, indicated the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, on Twitter on Saturday.

“The good news is that the vaccination of the 1st doses continues. With more than 8K people [vendredi], we have now reached 88%. Vaccination can minimize the 4th wave, ”added Mr. Dubé.

For its part, Ontario added 857 new infections, up slightly from the previous day, as well as 15 fatalities.

Since the start of the pandemic, 573,835 Ontarians have contracted the virus and 9,605 of them have died.

Hospitalizations increased slightly (363, -2). In the country’s most populous province, 84% of people aged 12 and over received one dose and 78% received two doses.

Yesterday, the province recorded 879 infections and 4 deaths.
