Morena will promote electoral reform in the Chamber of Deputies before August: Ignacio Mier

The coordinator of Brunette on the Chamber of Deputies, Ignatius Mierinformed that his parliamentary group will present next May an initiative of political-electoral reformso that it is discussed and approved before the end of the first semester of this year, he even said, they could request an extraordinary period for it.

The legislator reiterated that the reform is Morena’s priority and that it will seek to reduce the cost of the elections and the INE, while at the same time they see it as necessary to federalize the electoral processes and review funding to political parties.

“The Parliamentary Group would surely be presenting it in the permanent one in May… Morena’s purpose, as confirmed in our plenary session, (is to present it) in this semester,” said the legislator.

Mier Velazco explained that Morena is working on a proposal that will seek to guarantee that the INE don’t be so “obese” or a tax burden for Mexicans, because even without an electoral process it costs 20,000 million pesos a year.

Likewise, he said he coincided with the leader of the PRI deputies, Ruben Moreira Valdezthat it is necessary to carry out a electoral reform that proposes the decentralization of the INE and the federalization of electoral processes, as well as reducing costs and reviewing the issue of resource control, since all constitutionally autonomous government entities have to deliver accounts.

“We are a Federation, we have 32 local congresses that are autonomous, that can discuss and analyze what the legal system is to organize electoral processes. In U.S There is not even a federal institute that is in charge of the elections, they are local institutes and the federal one is constituted only when there are federal elections”, he asserted.

Meanwhile, he clarified that Morena’s initiative in electoral matters will take place after this year’s elections, since “it cannot interfere with the noise that is generated during the campaigns and on election day,” and it will be different from a possible proposal. of the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

“We already have a proposal and we are going to analyze it, both the initiative that comes from the Executive, the one that the Parliamentary Group can generate and those generated by other parliamentary groups or individual deputies,” he explained.

Likewise, the Morena coordinator added that three major reforms are coming to consolidate the Fourth Transformation: the electricalthe National Guard reform so that it is guaranteed in the pacification process, and the consolidation of the electoral system.

Extraordinary

The president of the Political-Electoral Reform Commission, the deputy Grace Sanchez Ortiz (Morena), advanced that the political-electoral reformwhich would include the proposal that the Federal Executive will send, could be addressed in an extraordinary period during the second recess of the first year of exercise of the LXV Legislature.

The foregoing is due to the fact that the initiative of the Executive has not reached Congress and its discussion was not contemplated in this ordinary period of sessions, explained the president of the Commission.

“I am aware that this reform is being worked on, perhaps it will not enter this period because it is not contemplated, but possibly it will be in an extraordinary period,” the deputy reiterated.

He explained that, given the agenda that was worked on in the meetings, this reform is not considered, since the priority is the constitutional reform in electrical matter. “It is the issue that we are all promoting.”

He pointed out that, if the reform is approved in said extraordinary period, the time would be enough for it to be applied in the 2024 elections.

“There’s time. There is no great rush to do it, because you have to work well, in consensus, in forums; we still have good time to be able to process it, ”she stressed.
