The city lists the following tips to make the snow removal process safer:

  • Be careful when driving near vehicles that clear snow. Like all heavy vehicles, they have large blind spots, and the equipment they use to remove snow makes those blind spots even larger.
  • Stay visible to operators. Make eye contact with the driver to ensure they are aware of their presence. When in doubt, stay away from the vehicle and wait for him to leave the scene.
  • Always keep a sufficient distance between you and a snow removal vehicle.
  • Make sure not to crowd the sidewalks with bags or bins, and park 12 inches from the curb to make room for machinery.
