Ministry of Culture and INBAL sign an agreement with Tlaxcala

The Ministry of Culture, through the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), and the Tlaxcalteca Institute of Culture (ITC) signed a collaboration agreement that includes attention to artistic heritage -in the framework of the centenary of muralism and the centenary of the artist Desiderio Hernández Xochitiotzin-, the professionalization of the state’s art sector, especially music and visual arts; the recovery of training in textiles, as well as the strengthening of artistic circuits.

The ceremony held in the Mural Area of ​​the Palacio de Bellas Artes was presided over by the governor of the state of Tlaxcala, Lorena Cuéllar Cisneros, the undersecretary of Cultural Development, Marina Núñez Bespalova, the general director of INBAL, Lucina Jiménez López, and the director from the ITC, Antonio Martínez Velázquez.

The agreement establishes the support of INBAL, through the Subdirectorate General for Fine Arts, the Subdirectorate General for Artistic Education and Research and the Subdirectorate General for Real Estate Art Heritage, as well as the generation of cultural co-productions, actions related to research, identification and conservation of the movable and immovable artistic heritage, part of the urban, artistic and architectural memory.

On behalf of the Secretary of Culture, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, the Undersecretary Marina Núñez acknowledged that “INBAL has been truly national for a couple of years. Working, going ashore, knowing the territory, and Tlaxcala could not be left behind. They did a magnificent job a few weeks ago, accompanied by the head of Culture of the entity, Antonio Martínez, they went to visit the different towns, to register expressions, to the cultural agents, artists and, from that, they created a plan that it is the one that will be consolidated and formalized in the document signed here ”.

For her part, the governor of Tlaxcala, Lorena Cuéllar, pointed out that since the beginning of her administration, culture has been firmly promoted, and emphasized that “we have to disclose our cultural heritage, our identity. This goes hand in hand with the recognition that Unesco made by inscribing the Franciscan Convent and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption on the World Heritage list. All this is wealth that we have to make known not only nationally, but also internationally ”.

He also announced that the Museum of Art will be inaugurated shortly, where different artistic and cultural activities will be carried out, and specified that “turning Tlaxcala into the capital of culture has been one of the greatest successes, and we do not have the right to fail. ”.

Strengthening the heritage and cultural activities of Tlaxcala: L. Jiménez

In his opportunity, the general director of INBAL, Lucina Jiménez, affirmed that “this collaborative act means guaranteeing the next generations an artistic and cultural heritage.” He expressed that “the agreement that we are signing today is a ratification of that intersection in the relationship between art and history, because today we are going to write a new route.”

He highlighted the commitment of Governor Lorena Cuéllar to initiate immediate actions in the conservation of artistic heritage, as will be done with the restoration of six works by Frida Kahlo and within the framework of the centenary of Mexican muralism, the work of the master Desiderio Hernández Xochitiotzin will be rescued. “Because it represents one of the great muralists in the history of the country and who worked until his last days, the fresco technique.”

He reported that, in addition, professionalization in artistic education, music and opera will be strengthened, as well as promoting the academic exchange of teachers and students, including the work of the Opera Studio and the National Opera Company and the National Coordination of Music and Opera.

Tlaxcala, cultural powerhouse: Martínez Velázquez

In turn, the director of the Tlaxcalteca Institute of Culture, Antonio Martínez Velázquez, affirmed that Tlaxcala wants to set an example of how access to cultural rights allows a better social coexistence, as well as dealing with the deepest issues of social decomposition from of the cultural richness of the peoples.

He said that the state is a cultural power, lately with greater diffusion of its culture in Mexico City. “Tlaxcala was not recognized as the cultural power that it is, that exists and is palpable.”

Within the framework of the cooperation of INBAL and ITC, the School of Textile Art will be recovered to strengthen its academic offerings, the link between professional textile design artists and traditional artisans that will enrich the perspective of a tradition that will strengthen one of the fundamental fields of creation in Tlaxcala, in dialogue with the INBAL School of Crafts. Likewise, the National Center for Research, Documentation and Information on Plastic Arts will seek to recover the experiences and knowledge of the teacher Juan de la Cruz Sánchez to form a teaching methodology that continues to permeate the formation of textile art.

Likewise, INBAL has carried out the diagnosis for the restoration of the murals La historia de Tlaxcala and El Siglo de Oro Tlaxcala, works by Desiderio Hernández Xochitiotzin (1922), who will be remembered on the centenary of his birth, as well as Migrations and history of Tlaxcala, creation of the artist Rodolfo Ayala.

Virtual and face-to-face activities

Among the upcoming activities are a concert that will be held by the Center for Experimentation and Production of Contemporary Music (Cepromusic) at the Xicohténcatl Theater, in which music by the Mexican composer Marcela Rodríguez and the French Tristan Murail will be performed, on November 19 . In the field of visual arts circuits, INBAL’s National Coordination of Visual Arts will inaugurate the exhibition Manifestos del arte mexicana in December. 1921-1958.
