CTV video shows Prime Minister Justin Trudeau greeting Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor at the Calgary airport this morning.

The footage shows Trudeau welcoming some of the plane’s passengers home with hugs on the runway.

The flight carrying Spavor and Kovrig, who have become internationally known as “The Two Michaels,” departed for Canada on Friday night just as Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou was returning to China after solving a legal saga that it fueled international tensions.

We apologize, but this video could not be loaded.

Meng reached a settlement with US prosecutors on Friday that saw them withdraw the extradition request that led to his 2018 arrest in Vancouver on fraud and conspiracy charges related to US sanctions against Iran.

Kovrig and Spavor were arrested in China on espionage charges a few days later in apparent retaliation, but Beijing has consistently denied a link between the two cases.
