Mexican Caribbean, with occupancy above 80% during Easter Week

Cancun, QR. Cancun maintains occupancies above 80% in the second week of Easter holidays, the same as the Riviera Maya, Tulum and Costa Mujeres.

Days before the formal start of vacations, Cancun already registered the same occupancy rate, since during week 14 (April 4 to 10, 2022), the city obtained the highest occupancy level at the national level with 82.0%, followed by Los Cabos with 78.8% and Puerto Vallarta with 76.5%, according to data from the federal Ministry of Tourism.

The president of the Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association, Jesús Almaguer Salazar, stated that there have even been hotels that since last weekend reported overselling and sales closures for the entire high season, so they anticipate good results at the end of the holiday period.

“We have dedicated ourselves to promoting and transmitting that not every day or all the beaches have sargassum in the Mexican Caribbean, an effort by the Sedetur and the associations to publicize the reality. Yes, there are beaches with sargassum, but not all of them”, she specified.

Another fundamental point for a successful season is security and in this area there has been a very good response, with the release of public beaches, as well as with the start of the security operation, confidence is inspired to come to the destinations, it must be maintained surveillance is the request of the sector and thus achieve the confidence of vacationers, he explained.

The season will be driven by national tourism that arrived from April 8 to April 24.

For his part, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Secretary of Tourism in Quintana Roo, explained that the estimated spill for the tourism industry is 970 million dollars in these two weeks, which will be very positive.

The tourist influx will be not only for the north, but also for the south, which will detonate up to 30% more visitors, he said. Quintana Roo expects to attract 1,170,000 tourists at the end of the holiday period.

This will allow the levels of tourist influx that were experienced in this same period, but in 2021, to be exceeded by 36% and also 1% above what was registered in 2019, before the pandemic, Cueto Riestra added.
