Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve: a 28-year-old man shot

A 28-year-old man is in critical condition in hospital after being targeted by an attempted murder on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, in the borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, in Montreal.

The police dispatched to the scene located the victim, hit by at least one projectile in the upper body during the shooting that occurred shortly after midnight on rue Pierre-Corneille, near rue de Boucherville.

The young man was rushed to a hospital, but there are still fears for his life, said a spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Jean-Pierre Brabant.

A security perimeter was erected on Pierre-Corneille Street to protect the scene which will be analyzed by investigators assisted by forensic identification technicians, said the Montreal police.

The canine squad was also requested on the scene to help in the search for evidence that could help to better understand the circumstances that led to this attempted murder.

The investigators had to go door to door in the neighborhood to meet possible witnesses, added the agent Brabant, specifying that for the moment no arrest has been recorded in the file.
