Masks are no longer mandatory outdoors or in schoolyards


Masks are no longer mandatory in school patios as of this Thursday, February 10, with the entry into force of the decree that also eliminates this obligation in outdoor spaces.

Catalonia, Extremadura and Cantabria will effective this measure starting this Thursday, while other autonomous communities such as Andalusia make the decision this same day. In the case of the Community of Madrid, the Valencian Community, Castilla y León and Asturias, they finalized their implementation on Wednesday and Castilla-La Mancha has already transmitted the pertinent instructions to do so to the educational centers.

The abolition of the obligation of the mask in schoolyards is part of the agreement of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (CISNS) to eliminate the use of facial protection in open spaces.

However, this obligation remains massive events that take place in outdoor spaces when attendees are standing or, if they are seated, when a safety distance of at least 1.5 meters cannot be maintained between people or groups of people living together.

It also remains mandatory in the media public transport, specifying that this includes platforms and passenger stations and cable cars. In addition, this non-pharmacological control measure is also maintained in any closed space for public use or that is open to the public.

The decree that includes the measure recalls that the relaxation of the measures included in this royal Decree, proposed for the general population, it should be assessed at the individual level according to belonging to groups of greater vulnerability, vaccination and activity and social behavior that may increase the risk of transmission.
