Regis made his second court appearance Thursday via video link in a Surrey provincial court room, and the matter was postponed to a date next month.
No formal date has been set for his trial to begin.
Onotera disappeared on August 28 and was last seen leaving her home in Langley City.
A massive search of the community found no sign of her, and in mid-September police and a forensic team arrived at her home.
On Saturday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed that Regis had been arrested and charged.

Police also confirmed that they had discovered Onotera’s remains, although they have not said where they were found.
A forensic team returned to Onotera’s home over the weekend, and homicide investigators described their searches as “ongoing” with “multiple places to search.”
Regis is due to return to court for his next appearance on January 11.
