Maduro, in Mexico? No an arab prince

The presence of Nicolás Maduro in Mexico would be abhorrent, but that of an Arab prince?

The CIA concluded that Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman ordered the kidnapping and murder of journalist Jamal Khasshogi on October 2, 2018 at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Khasshogi went to the consulate of his country in Istanbul to process some documents with a view to what was going to be his marriage to a girl of Turkish origin. The journalist, a critic of the Saudi regime, entered the consulate and was dismembered inside.

To handle the international image crisis, Bin Salman appointed fellow Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud as Foreign Minister.

Bin Farhan has been very active abroad and is not new to handling crises caused by crimes committed within the monarchy. In 2016, in Riyadh, Prince Turki bin Saud al-Kabi was beheaded with a sword.

On that occasion Bin Farhan Al Saud told The New York Times: “The king has always said that there is no difference before the law between princes and others. This is a manifestation of that fact.”

Bin Farhan’s Cynicism premiered it last year at an event with The Washington Institute. When asked by the forum moderator about the Khashoggi assassination, Bin Farhan said: “The assassination of Jamal Khashoggi was an abominable act, and we have said it firmly.”

On respecting the human rights of journalists and female activists who have been imprisoned in Saudi Arabia, Bin Farhan indicated: “Human rights are something that I think we all see as something very important (…) The people who mentioned (the moderator) are not detained for the issue of human rights or for women’s emancipation activities. They are accused of serious crimes according to our laws ”.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan al Saud visited Mexico last week. He met with the Undersecretary of Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights Martha Delgado, the Undersecretary of Foreign Relations Carmen Moreno Toscano, Marcelo Ebrard, Rocío Nahle. The statement does not speak of human rights, only tourism and investment.

A journalist from Mexican television who had arranged an interview with Bin Farhan was canceled at the last minute by the Saudi Arabian embassy. It is not known whether it happened because she was a woman or because of the questionnaire that the journalist sent to the embassy in advance.

It seems that human rights and the issue of women are not important to Saudi Arabia.

And for Mexico?
