Longueuil: an elderly lady burned in her apartment

An elderly woman was found seriously burned in her home in Longueuil, on the South Shore of Montreal, overnight from Sunday to Monday.

The fire started shortly before midnight from a forgotten smoker’s item in the apartment of a building located on rue Caroline, near rue Saint-Laurent Ouest.

When the firefighters arrived, they found a lady in her 70s with burns to part of her body, before being transported to a hospital in critical condition.

The other residents of the building were evacuated, but none of them were injured, according to the Longueuil agglomeration security service.

An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this event, it was added.
