The game meant nothing in the standings to either team. The Vipers had already secured the fourth seed and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs in the Western Conference of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

The Nationals lost to Kokomo on Saturday, which paved the way for the Leamington Flyers to finish in first place in the conference while London came into Sunday’s game locked into the second seed.

Matthew Herniman, who was called up from the Lakeshore Canadiens, had the lone goal for the Vipers (27-17-3-1), who were outshot 40-36.

Matthew Sbrocca started in goal for the Vipers and stopped all 18 shots he faced. Kyle Downey came on in relief against the Nationals (34-11-2-1) and stopped 20-of-22 shots.
