The decrees passed the Emergency Measures Act allowed financial institutions, among other things, to freeze bank accounts as well as to declare as illegal certain gatherings in specifically designated areas.

“The situation is no longer an emergency,” Trudeau said.

This announcement comes as senators have been debating since Monday on the use of the Act.

The law was approved by 185 deputies, while 151 opposed it.

More details to come.
