Re “Meeting denied” (Letters to the Editor, March 17): I disagree with the letter writer about Trudeau’s refusal to meet with the truckers. Is the Supreme Leader not supposed to communicate with the masses? Is he not required to explain a change in government policy to the electorate? Justin Trudeau met and took a knee with the BLM folks. He has met with Indigenous groups. He meets with people of all backgrounds at Liberal fundraisers. In his sentences of him, he has stated how important communication is. He even advised the Israelis to show restraint as thousands of rockets were falling down on them. To explain your policy to a group of Canadians is not too much to ask. Prior to August last year, Trudeau was insisting that we should respect the decisions of unvaccinated Canadians and that no one should be forced to become vaccinated. People traveled from as far away as British Columbia to find out why he changed his mind. Talking to Canadians is not as important on Trudeau’s list as being seen with world leaders but he has an obligation to do it.

WATCHING PUTIN’

Bizarre how the world watches Russian aggression while believing it’s a TV show and just another soap opera. It’s going to cost lives but we must stand up to the bully. Putin is crazy like a fox and is betting that his threat of nuclear weapons is enough of a deterrent to stop the West. If he is going to use nuclear, he will use them regardless. That’s what bullies do. What he has not predicted is that these weapons will not be restricted to the Ukraine but will be on his doorstep in Moscow. Put the bully in his place and make him pay dearly. The way we treat hardcore criminals in Canada is the same way NATO is reacting. They can all be rehabilitated and there’s no risk that they will reoffend. BS This will also send a message to China, which is salivating at the prospect of doing the same thing to Taiwan knowing that there will be no more than idle talk as a reaction from the West. Western leaders are too thickened in opinions on Twitter and where they are doing lunch that day. Again, Trump was right about NATO and the UN being irrelevant. If you want to talk about irrelevance, look no further than Ottawa and Washington. No one of import in the world cares what these two have to say. How would we feel if we were being bombed and there was no help from our trusted allies? We’re going to have a wake-up call when China and Russia come looking for our northern resources.
