Leamington approves the 2022 budget

Leamington taxpayers will see a three percent increase in tax collection after the council approved the 2022 city budget on Thursday.

The increase amounts to an estimated $ 36.61 per $ 100,000 of residential appraisal.

The budget includes an investment of $ 27.8 million in capital projects and $ 51.8 million through the operating budget to deliver essential municipal programs and services to the growing Leamington community.

Highlights include a renewed focus on accessibility projects, including in the fire room and courthouse, and the paving of municipal trails near the soccer complex.

The Southwest Leamington Stormwater Management Pond will be built, along with continued investment in drainage works, bridge reconstruction, road resurfacing and gravel removal projects.

Upgrades and upgrades are planned for the pollution control center, as well as a renovation of Mersea Park.

“I am pleased with the work and collaboration that went into preparing this mature budget that invests in Leamington’s future,” Mayor Hilda MacDonald said in a press release.

“This budget responds to the unique challenges of the past year considering the service needs of our residents; it required an investment in our infrastructure and affordability for taxpayers. “
