The organization “Defending the right to a healthy environment” announced that he obtained from the First District Court of Yucatan a provisional suspension that orders the federal government to stop construction works on section five of the mayan train that goes from Cancun to Tulum.
This is a second suspension obtained by the same organization, which is added to other suspension appeals that other actors have obtained.
“DMAS AC is granted the provisional suspension for the purpose that Sedatu, Fonatur Y Fonatur Mayan Train suspend or paralyze any act whose purpose is the continuation -in the material execution- of the construction of Section Five of the Mayan Train project, which runs from Cancun to Tulum, Quintana Roo, so that the execution of works related to its construction, infrastructure, removal or destruction of the biodiversity of the land or any other activity that implies its material execution, ”said the judge in his sentence.
In the next few days, the judge will have to lead a new hearing to determine whether or not to grant a definitive suspension to said organization.
“Defending the right to a healthy environment” maintains that the federal government has been disregarded in the procedure of issuing the Environment Effect investigation of this work, one of the most important in the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
This morning in his morning conference, President López Obrador considered that those who oppose the Mayan Train project do not do so out of concern for environmental impact, but because of “politics, because they want to block everything we do.”
The federal president even considered that the opposition, in particular to section five, is because there are economic interests.
“Here it is Xcaret, which has many influences with media. I’m even reading writers who are surely related to the owners of Xcaret.
“It is not only Xcaret, it is another company, Calica, Vulcan, the most important construction company in the United States, which has a bank here, which is extracting gravel for the highways of the United States and received permits from the neoliberal governments, and the environmentalists. They never said anything, and it is an unprecedented destruction of the territory and they continue to do so, “he said.
“The important thing is that we come from below, we have been fighting for years. In addition to the fact that we have moral authority, because we are defenders of justice and the environment and human rights, and we have demonstrated it with facts, since we already know these fraudsters”, added the president.
He pointed to the environmentalist Gustavo Alanís for opposing the mayan train and allegedly having collected 800,000 pesos “to give his consent to the construction of the airport in Texcoco.”
