Jalisco outlines 14,800 million pesos for infrastructure works in 2022

Guadalajara, Jal. To continue developing infrastructure in the state, this time without the support of financing, as happened this year, the government of Jalisco allocated for this item an item of 14.815 million pesos in the 2022 expenditure budget.

If approved by the local Congress, the budget for public works in Jalisco next year will help cushion the fall that private investment has had in the construction sector.

According to the president of the local Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), Carlos Del Río Madrigal, in the entity the private work constitutes 80% of the total production in the entity, and the remaining 20% is investment of the different levels of government.

Although without specifying the decline in private investment, the sector leader indicated that private work has been affected, in addition to the global economic situation, by the rise in the cost of inputs and the shortage of materials.

“The global environment that we are having with the problems in the supply chain, with the increases in materials, the uncertainty that this generates has put us in a position where private investment in construction is at historic lows; we have the levels we had in 2009 “.

Faced with the annual reduction suffered by federal budgets for infrastructure in Jalisco, the state investment of almost 15,000 million pesos represents a respite for that industry that generates around 140,000 jobs in the state.

“The state economy must be made to grow, for which new ways must be found to promote private investment, maintain investment levels in public works and include in the budgets for the following year the works necessary to solve the pressing problems in the state, ”said Del Río Madrigal.

Repopulation

The president of CMIC proposed to promote the reactivation of housing construction through the repopulation of the city.

“We need support for private investors to invest again in construction (…) Also, to make our economy grow, our state and municipalities need to do what is necessary and maintain the levels of investment in public works. To achieve this, obviously the municipal, state and federal budgets for next year will be crucial, “he said.
