It took more than 240 days to legitimize the CFE union’s contract

More than 240 days required the Single Union of Electrical Workers of the Mexican Republic (SUTERM) to carry out the legitimation of the collective labor agreement with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) on December 1 and whose “high cost” assumed the union organization.

In an interview with El Economista, Marcela Téllez, spokesperson and organizer of the SUTERM legitimation process, explained that until now the union organization led by Víctor Fuentes has already conducted (since April) votes with companies that are independent energy producers, and This allowed the union to adapt to the new rules established in the labor reform.

“This process was very big and it went very well for us,” he said after noting that it is very expensive, but “in the union it was decided that all this cost would be assumed by SUTERM, without the support of the company.”

In this sense, he explained that “we started with the first independent producer, which was AES Mérida, this was in April 2021, with the aim of verifying from the outset what the conditions were to carry out the legitimation -under the protocol established by the Secretary of Labor, since the Federal Center for Labor Conciliation was not yet in operation, it was brought in with inspectors, there were still no verifiers and from there we also went to other agencies such as the National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energies (INEEL) and Cenace ”.

“Once we finished with the private sphere and some public ones, we gave way to carry out the event with the Federal Electricity Commission; It is a new procedure, which represents logistics, time for each of the colleagues, just as the representations have to be taken out and explained what legitimation consists of, many times people bring other ideas, ”he explained.

In the voting process, SUTERM presented a registry with 72,192 workers, of which 57,032 were votes in favor, and 196 voting centers were installed; It is important to note that the collective bargaining agreement that was submitted to legitimation, in this year, the current administration restored labor rights to them.
