In Querétaro, 31.08% of businesses died: Inegi

Querétaro, Qro. In the last 27 months in the state, 31.08% of establishments died, with respect to the number of units reported in the 2019 economic census, revealed the Study on Business Demography (EDN, 2021), of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

The state was slightly below the national indicator that was 32.61% the proportion of deaths of establishments at 27 months of the 2019 economic census.

In Queretaro This percentage of business mortality was higher than the 2020 indicator, when it was around 22.4% of deaths in establishments, ─by then─ 17 months after the 2019 economic census.

Regarding the employed personnel, in the last 27 months the proportion of employed personnel that stopped working due to the closure of establishments was 26.23% in the state; This figure is also higher than the 22.11% reported in 2020, 17 months after the 2019 economic census.

The 2019 economic censuses reported 115,532 establishments in the state, employing about 833,477 people; Therefore, 27 months after the census, the state’s business mortality is equivalent to the closure of 35,907 businesses and the loss of 218,621 jobs.

Regarding the opening of establishments, the EDN 2021 highlights that 27 months after the economic census, in the state the proportion of births of economic units was 24.85 with respect to the businesses captured in the 2019 census. Meanwhile, in 2020, the figure was 12.95% of new establishments compared to the 2019 census.

Regarding the personnel in the state, 15.97% was the proportion of personnel employed in the nascent establishments, 27 months after the 2019 census; indicator higher than in 2020, when it was 7.88% of personnel employed in business nascent.

The first results of the EDN 2021 disclose information on the micro, small and medium establishments that carry out manufacturing, commercial and non-financial private services activities that survived, were born and died 27 months after the end of the 2019 economic censuses. The study takes as reference period from May 2019 to July 2021.

The 2019 censuses refer that 99.8% of the country’s establishments are micro, small or medium; and due to their characteristics, these economic units tend to present greater changes with respect to large companies, in terms of income, employed personnel, location, closings and openings, among other aspects, explains Inegi.
