The pandemic influences color forecasts

The grass will be equally green on both sides of the fence this year, as paint maker after paint maker reveals some shade variation as their 2022 Color of the Year (COTY). The only nonconformist completely broke ranks by selecting a red-pink .

The star of Benjamin Moore’s color palette is October fog, “ a softly shaded sage, ”the mark is likened to a flower stalk. Like other paint manufacturers, the paint giant was influenced by a pandemic that forced many to live, work and learn at home.

“As the spaces in our homes continue to evolve, we discover more opportunities to express our individuality and harness the power of color to design environments that serve different functions and styles,” says director of color development and marketing Andrea Magno. Benjamin Moore’s color palette also includes Hint of Violet, Pale Moon, and Natural Linen.

Behr Paint Company is Breezeway, a silver green shade with cool undertones that “evokes feelings of freshness and peace while representing the desire to move on and discover new passions,” says the brand.

RENEWAL, HEALING

“Whether it’s tying up our hiking boots or pulling out our garden tools, Breezeway inspires us to fully embrace the hobbies or adventures, both near and far, that we are excited about,” says Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services. “We look forward to a color that welcomes a hopeful sense of renewal, restoration and healing.”

Sherwin-Williams “welcomes new beginnings” with Evergreen Fog, described as a “sophisticated, nourishing grayish green.” After years of cool neutrals and bold jewel tones, the color ushers in nostalgic midtones and “inspires us to start over,” says Color Marketing Director Sue Wadden. “Create depth and texture with a natural-looking textile blend. Add some sparkle with a fusion of metals: champagne gold, warm brass, or ink black. “

The color experts at Valspar by Sherwin-Williams, meanwhile, forecast a color palette that includes Bleached thyme , a natural green. The Valspar 2022 color palette also includes Delightful Moon, a warm yellow, Lilac Lane from the purple family, Mountain River, a deep dark blue, Subtle Peach, a simple pastel, and Rustic Oak, a warm shade reminiscent of copper.

Glidden by PPG’s COTY is guacamole, described by the brand as an “energetic but relaxing green.” After a year of requests to stay at home and live in a largely digital world, Canadians yearn for authenticity, nature, and meaningful human interaction – a reality that inspired PPG’s Sico to select Cool Current, a sophisticated, versatile and highly adaptable gray-green base, like your COTY.

Warm Hugs is part of a palette that tells a story of recovery and healing, comprised of comforting, nature-inspired hues designed to bring warmth and well-being back into our lives, the brand advises. “Our feelings about color are often deeply personal and reflect our experiences and culture,” says Allen. “While perceptions of color can be subjective, color has the power to improve our lives and influence our emotions in positive ways.”
