Grande Prairie rejects EQ and says no to daylight saving time change

The official results of two questions from the provincial referendum were released today in the city of Grande Prairie.

During this week’s municipal elections, residents were also asked to vote on two questions from the provincial referendum.

The official count shows that Grande Prairie residents voted for equalization reform and against changes to the current daylight savings regime.

About two-thirds of voters, or 6,382 of 9,186, voted to remove equality from the constitution.

Approximately 55 percent of Grande Prairie residents voted to maintain the current clock change system twice a year, with 5,269 votes out of 9,409 cast in favor of rejecting daylight saving time.

The province is expected to release the full province-wide results for both referendum questions on October 26.

Official results from the City of Grande Prairie show that 9,763 residents voted in municipal elections, representing 21.7 percent of eligible voters in the city.
