Gran Bajío Initiative seeks to attract more foreign capital

In order to complement government efforts in the area of ​​regional alliances aimed at economic development, members of the Gran Bajío initiative and authorities agreed that the main goal should be to attract foreign capital and consolidate their participation in new international markets.

As a result of the recent formation of the new Gran Bajío project, businessmen from Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, Michoacán, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro and Guanajuato held the first meeting forum with subnational authorities and with foreign and local companies, in order to publicize the opportunities of business that international agencies identify in these six entities.

At the event, held in San Miguel Allende, Guanajuato, the development of an agenda was specified that proposes periodic business events for strategic planning, travel and investment seminars for North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, as well as diplomatic meetings and meetings. with local authorities.

In addition, networking events and business promotion strategy will be held in 32 cities around the world.

In this vein, the governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, reported that this new alliance formed by the Private Initiative (IP) will help current regional projects (such as the Central-Bajío-Occidente Alliance) that seek to achieve economic recovery later of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He added that the best way to achieve dynamism is through the largest possible amount of foreign capital and companies from other countries, for which he specified that he will work so that this alliance has the support of the governments of the states of the region. to position it as a leader in attracting investment in Latin America and worldwide.

“We are states with great strength, with great growth. It is important that we begin to speak well of our country. Today what we need is to unite as Mexicans. This regionalization is very worthwhile, ”he stated, stressing that the IP has the backing of Guanajuato.

“Our competition does not have to be between us, it is with the world. If we want to make this region a power in Latin America, we have to unite, because together we will all go very well, “said the state president.

He elaborated that in this process of attracting investments and companies from other countries, special emphasis must be placed on new industries such as 4.0, the invoice mind, clean energy; since the region will be consolidated with the new economic activities.

Potential

The Secretary of Economic Development of Michoacán, Alfredo Anaya Orozco, explained that investments have to be oriented in line with the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), as well as the fact that the Bajío has as its neighbor the central region of the country, which is one of the most consumed.

He stressed that as an entity they can contribute to this regional project the current good relationship that exists with the federal government, for the search for incentives and administrative facilities to energize the region.

Anaya Orozco explained that this forum shows the potential for economic development that Michoacán has, in particular the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas as a showcase for attracting national and foreign investment.

“We have a large port, it is 19 meters deep, it is the only one in Latin America that has automated technology, not a single person is needed for the maneuvering area. You have the possibility of encountering ships of the seventh generation, of more than 165,000 tons, of more than 20,000 containers. We have connection with 54 ports in different parts of the world ”, he commented.

According to the local official, this integral project of economic promotion should also include the tourist and cultural part.

Context

On October 25, the Gran Bajío project was presented in Morelia, Michoacán, made up of entrepreneurs and innovators from the six entities.

This alliance arose with the intention of economic reactivation in the face of the pandemic, but also seeks that the private sector of this region is the most important and the one with the greatest weight in any country.

According to the Gran Bajío project, the states of the region contribute more than 9.5% of the national GDP, being the most economically developed in Mexico.

It is positioned as one of the 10 regions in the world with the highest investment in aeronautics with more than 80 companies.

It is the leading exporter of automobiles in Latin America and the fourth worldwide. It is also the largest exporter of Mexico in agro-industrial matters, with 163 products to 59 destinations in the world.

“It has more than 800 companies of all levels creating the most complete supply network in Latin America, as well as more than 4,000 global companies from more than 80 countries”, highlights the Gran Bajío project.

The region has an industrial belt with more than 146 specialized industrial parks, totaling more than 17 million square meters built.

El Bajío is considered the third area in the world with the most logistical potential, behind Shanghai and Dubai. It has four international airports, three internal customs offices and a complete network of rail and road mobility, connecting North America with Latin America, the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic.
