When Qaisar Syed was growing up, he treasured the time he spent with his father, Zaigham. “My dad worked very hard as a businessman,” says Syed. “I wasn’t home much, so I was able to support our family.”
As such, moments like this, captured by Star photographer Boris Spremo in the fall of 1998, were rare but joyous. “When I was a kid, I loved High Park,” says Syed. “When my dad wasn’t working, I always asked him to take me for a walk so he could play.”
Today, Syed is a singer-songwriter known professionally as CEZR. Between acting, recording, and producing pop and R&B, he understands the value of hard work. “As I got older, I began to respect my father more and more,” he says. “At the end of the day, all he was doing was for us and our future.”
Syed, whose father brought the family to Canada from Pakistan when the children were young, is grateful for the sacrifices he made. “Now my three brothers and I are Canadian citizens with endless opportunities,” he says.
The beauty of Toronto’s parks and coastline provides the backdrop for many of CEZR’s music videos (their “Let’s Go” has over 130,000 views on YouTube), and the artist, who will release new music early next year. year, he hopes his songs resonate. with a wide audience.
“I want to touch people from all over the world,” he says. “My goal is for anyone to listen to my music and connect emotionally with them. Whatever they are feeling: happy, sad or if they feel like dancing or just taking a ride in the car. “
