“Freedom Convoy”: GoFundMe to testify March 3 on fundraising

The GoFundMe platform has agreed to testify on March 3 before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety about the fundraising of the “freedom convoy”, which had raised nearly $10 million.

“Representatives will appear on March 3, and we look forward to their testimony on the internal mechanisms they have put in place to prevent the crowdfunding of extremism,” the New Democratic Party spokesperson wrote on Twitter on Thursday ( NDP), Alistair MacGregor, who introduced the motion on February 3.

The news comes at a time when representatives of the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Center of Canada are scheduled to testify on this subject before the committee.

This fundraising campaign has also drawn attention from across the border, as the states of Texas, Missouri, West Virginia and Florida have said they are monitoring the situation closely.

GoFundMe had chosen to end the fundraising for truckers last Friday, justifying then that the convoy had become a movement of occupation in Ottawa.
