Fonatur donates land for works on the Nichupté Bridge in Cancun

Cancun, QR. The National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) made the donation of two lots in the urban area of Cancún, in order to contribute to the consolidation of the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge project and as part of the urban planning that comes with the Mayan Train.

During a meeting that was headed by Alejandro Varela Arellano, legal director of Fonatur, the corresponding deed was celebrated with the presence of Eduardo Ortiz Jasso, general director of the Strategic Projects Agency of Quintana Roo (Agepro), representing the state government.

Said properties are marked as Lot 2A and Lot 2C which are located in Supermanzana 10, Manzana 2 in Cancun, in front of Avenida Bonampak and near the Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard road distributor.

Based on the agreement, these buildings will be used for the construction of access ramps and gauges that will connect with Avenida Bonampak, which will start the structure of the future bridge that will cross the Laguna Nichupté to communicate the urban area with the hotel zone.

Lot 2A has an area of ​​2,155.89 square meters, while Lot 2C covers 3,063.24 square meters, which were granted as a donation with the authorization of the Fonatur Technical Committee at the national level to carry out the aforementioned project.

The Nichupté Bridge is in charge of the government of Quintana Roo under a Public Private Association (APP) scheme, whose investment amount is estimated at 4 thousand 675 million pesos.

For its part, Agepro reported that the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge is an infrastructure project that proposes a 8.6-kilometer-long connection between the urban center of Cancún and the hotel zone, which will allow a significant reduction in travel times.

Technical details

In December 2020, the state Congress approved the Nichupté Bridge project under a PPP scheme, with an estimated investment of 4,675 million pesos, of which 2,675 million (57%) would be covered by the project developer (private company ) and 2,000 million (43%) through federal support, which were finally not included in the federal government’s budget package for 2022.

However, in the 2022 budget of the federal government, no resources were allocated for this project, so only in October of this year, the president, Carlos Joaquín González, announced that the bridge will be built with 100% resources from the Initiative. Private, in addition to the work being put out to tender shortly.

Joaquín González insisted that the state government will not provide resources since the Private Initiative will fully finance the project.

“The Bridge of the Nichupté Lagoon of course is going to be carried out, it will be in tender shortly, it will be a bridge 100% of the private initiative, in a public-private partnership, and it will go out to tender in the next few days, a once the Environmental Impact Statement is ready ”, he declared.

The bridge is an infrastructure project that proposes a 8.6-kilometer-long connection between the urban center of Cancun and the Hotel Zone, which will considerably reduce travel times and general travel costs, according to Agepro.

They estimate two years for the construction of the work and it is expected to work through tolls for at least 28 years, during which time the income from toll rights will remain as state resources through an Operating Agency by the government, and they will be assigned to an administration and payment trust for the correct operation of the project and its maintenance.
