Originally created by Broadway legends Jerome Robbins and Harold Prince with the songwriters, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, and book writer, Joseph Stein, this play has won nine Tony Awards.

“Fiddler on the Roof” is the story of a poor Jewish milk man, named Tevye living in Czarist Russia, set in the little village of Anatevka.

Confronted by the growing anti-Semitism within Russia, with the backdrop of the pogroms in mind, Tevye must defend his five daughters from an increasingly hostile world, which eventually becomes uninhabitable to them.

All the while, he must protect his family and instill within them the traditional values of his people so that they are not lost in the turbulent times they occupy.

Now, Monty and Shirley Haughian will direct Grande Prairie’s rendition.

With an impressive cast of over 52 actors, GPLT newcomer, Ted Senecal, will play the lead role of Tevye. This production of “Fiddler on the Roof” also consists of a 30-piece orchestra, and a sizeable stage crew making those involved total over 100.

Moreover, GPLT heavily depends upon roughly 300 volunteers to help them with the production.

The GPLT, which is responsible for this production of “Fiddler on the Roof” is one of Canada’s largest non-profit community theater companies.

Despite its small size they produce seven shows a season, with a plethora of special events, concerts, and film programming; this is why GPLT serves over 11,000 people per year at their beautiful Downtown 161-seat venue.

To get tickets to a show between Feb. 10-26 you can call the GPLT Box Office at 780 538 1616 or visit their website at www.gplt.ca student tickets are only 10$ but cannot be obtained online.
