FDI in Querétaro registers an annual fall of 35.7%

Querétaro, Qro. The capital contributed by new investments has the lowest contribution to the Foreign direct investment (IED) that Querétaro has received this year.

From January to September, this concept of IED it amounted to 118.1 million dollars, a figure that is 19.8% of the total foreign investment received by the entity in said period, which totaled 595.5 million dollars. Next, the accounts between companies are maintained with 147.8 million dollars, 24.8% of the total, reports the Ministry of Economy (I KNOW).

The most important contribution is the reinvestment of profits, contributing 329.6 million dollars, 55.4% of the total figure. The contribution of new investments shows a downward trend, when comparing the January-September period of the last three years.

While in the reference period of 2019 this type of investment represented 41.8% (with 431 million dollars of new investments), for 2020 the contribution was 26.5% to the total of IED (with 245.3 million), for the period of the current year the contribution is lower, 19.8% (with 118.1 million).

The contribution of new investments this year is the lowest since 2018, when the participation was only 16% (161.2 million), less than the contribution of this year.

During January-September the entity received 595.5 million dollars of Direct Foreign Investment, a figure to which the amounts raised in the first and third quarters of the year contribute to a greater extent.

The accumulated of IED In the ninth month, it shows a decrease of 35.7% (331 million less) compared to the same period in 2020, when the figure reached 926.5 million dollars, according to federal agency records.

The figure for this year is also still lower than in 2019, that is, it reflects a decrease of 42.3% (436.1 million less) compared to the 1,031.6 million dollars reported in the same period two years ago. It should be noted that in 2020, FDI for the January-September period totaled 926.5 million dollars, a decrease of 10.2% per year.

In the sum of the Foreign direct investment, Until September, Spain stands out for contributing the highest figure, with 147.4 million dollars, immediately Japan with 94.9 million dollars, Canada with 76 million and Switzerland with 72.2 million.

At the origin of the IEDIt should be noted that the United States is not located –as it usually does– among the main issuers, since from January to September it only contributed 35.2 million dollars, after reporting a drop of 59.2 million in the third quarter of the year.

The manufacturing industry continues as the main recipient of foreign investment, adding 255.6 million from January to September. It is seconded by financial and insurance services with $ 138 million this year.
