Edmonton Police Helps Families in Need Through Holiday Heroes – Edmonton Campaign | The Canadian News

The Edmonton Police Foundation has created a new program to help officers give back to those in need.

Its Holiday Heroes campaign allows police units to deliver gifts to ten indigenous families. In partnership with Bent Arrow, the ten selected families get $ 1,000 in goods from their wish list.

“What we’re doing is basically taking care of them for Christmas,” said Ashif Mawji, president of the Edmonton Police Foundation. “Christmas should be the last thing you worry about.”

The Edmonton Police Crime Suppression Unit presented gifts for Annabelle Jimmy-Delorme and her two young grandchildren.

“It means a lot because with no money on the budget, there are almost no gifts for the kids, so this helps me a lot,” Jimmy-Delorme said. “Supporting the two children by myself is sometimes very difficult in terms of money, so this is very, very helpful.”

“We have taken the pool of money that our generous donors have given us and put it to good use, being part of the community and helping where we can,” Mawji said.

Jimmy-Delorme listed some of the things on his family’s list:

“Chromebook, rollerblades, gift cards, winter gear like jackets, boots… I asked for shovels because I want them to help me remove the snow,” he said.

“We are really involved in the negative many times, but also the positive,” Insp. Angela Kemp said about the Crime Suppression Unit.

“We can be part of this commitment to families, [showing] how both sides of the police work. “

Kemp said he wants the community to know that they are here to provide support.

“We really want to impart Merry Christmas, the spirit and the understanding that the police are here and we are part of the family, and we are part of the community,” he said.

“That’s what we really enjoy is that piece of community involvement.”

Jimmy-Delorme is grateful.

“Thank you very much, very grateful that you have done this for us.”
