The Detroit Red Wings held off a late Edmonton Oilers rally for a 4-2 victory Thursday night.

The loss breaks the Oilers’ four-game winning streak.

Stuart Skinner, making his first start to the season in goal for the Oilers, made several great saves early to keep the game scoreless. He was ultimately beaten with six minutes to go in the first when Red Wings forward Vlad Namestnikov cut from the right side and fired home with a shot to the wrist.

Namestnikov struck again in the second, hitting home a rebound.

Later, Skinner misplayed the puck on the side of the net. Detroit forward Dylan Larkin swooped in, stole it and slammed the puck into the empty cage to make Detroit 3-0.

Jesse Puljujarvi finally put the Oilers on the board with a shot on a breakaway in the last minute of the period.

Oilers captain Connor McDavid scored just 38 seconds in the third and suddenly Edmonton was one goal away.

The Oilers applied tons of pressure in the third, but failed to score the tying goal.

Moritz Seider scored a late goal with an empty net for the Wings.

Skinner made 35 saves. Alex Nedeljkovic made 31 stops to take the victory to Detroit.

Oilers winger Zack Kassian did not return to the game after sustaining a lower body injury in the first period.

The Oilers (9-2) will play in Boston on Thursday. The game is at 630 CHED with the Face to face show at 3:30 pm The game will start at 5 pm
