Death toll rises since 2018 Toronto van attack after victim dies in hospital: police | The Canadian News

A woman who was seriously injured in the 2018 Toronto van attack and has remained in hospital since then has died, Toronto police say.

Police said in a press release issued Thursday that Amaresh Tessamariam, 65, of Toronto, succumbed to his injuries on October 28.

“Investigators continue to work with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Office of the Crown Attorneys in connection with this investigation,” the statement said.

Eleven deaths are now linked to the April 23 attack. Many more people were injured.

The incident occurred in the afternoon when a man was driving a rental van down a sidewalk in the far north of the city in an effort to kill as many people as possible.

In March this year, Alek Minassian was convicted of 10 counts of first degree murder and 16 counts of attempted murder.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in 2022.
