David Muñoz and Rosalía announce collaboration: what will MotoUmami be?

  • The chef posts an enigmatic half-minute video on his Instagram to present a gastronomic project with the Catalan artist “very soon”

The ‘collabs’ (diminutive of collaborations in English) are fashionable. Take two successful names in their respective fields and put an ‘x’ in the middle and succeed. It is the sign of the times: we gather your followers and mine and double the bet. So, when yesterday David Muñoz posted on his Instagram account a video of just half a minute in which he announced that Rosalía and he are cooking something together the world went crazy.

In the ‘reel’ the chef is seen handling a frying pan with fire in the purest Asian style in the kitchen of his restaurant. Suddenly, he looks up and discovers something: it’s a motorcycle helmet with the symbol of ‘Motomami’, the last album released by Rosalía. Next, a sign appears with the phrase “Rosalía x Dabiz: MotoUmami & rdquor; and a message in English announcing that this will arrive “really soon” (soon).

The expectation is maximum before a project that is not yet known what it will consist of. There are winds of change in the Diverxo universe. David Muñoz announced in the past Madrid Fusión that his restaurant will change location in about two years “to break down dogmas and barriers” and that its Ravioxo concept, which revolves around the world of Asian dumping, will open shortly in Madrid. What he did not say at all in the Madrid gastronomic contest was his collaboration with Rosalía, which seems to have been cooking for a long time.

The tracks of the collaboration

In November 2021 Rosalía posted a two-minute video on TikTok in which she appeared on Diverxo eating the restaurant menu. The message left no room for doubt: “It literally made me cry from how good it is & rdquor;, He said. But it has not been the only time that Rosalía has been seen with David and his surroundings. A few months later, in March 2022, Cristina Pedroche, wife of the chef, uploaded a video to her TikTok account in which she danced with Rosalía his song ‘Chicken Teriyaki’. At that time, Pedroche simply explained that she and the singer were “doing some things & rdquor; without giving more details.

@rosalia It literally made me cry how good it is🥺 #funxo ♬ original sound – La Rosalia

Now, those “things” they seem to have taken shape in something that can be guessed very powerful, given the size of the two figures: Muñoz has three Michelin stars for Diverxo And it is the Spanish chef of the moment, while Rosalía is an international music figure who walks through the MET gala on the same level as any other megastar.

A restaurant menu or a ‘delivery’?

But how will you eat this from MotoUmami? The first thing to do is congratulate the author of the ‘naming’ who, by adding just one letter to the title of Rosalía’s album, manages to refer to the fifth flavor and one of David Muñoz’s hallmarks in the kitchen. Could it be a separate menu at Diverxo? It would be a 180-degree turn in a business that the chef has always controlled with an iron hand and that, today, only has one option for customers.

A project like this could fit like a glove in the form of ‘delivery’ in the style of ‘collabs’ (yes, that little word again) that Dani García has in his home delivery service La Gran Familia Mediterránea and in which there is room for everything from dishes designed by the ‘influencer’ Paula Ordovás to crazy things from the mind of El Rubius. Another option is that it be an option designed to be enjoyed in David’s new Ravioxo: The joint dance of Rosalía and Cristina Pedroche took place, according to the Madrid presenter, in one of the chef’s restaurants and it was clearly neither Diverxo nor Streetxo… could the shots go that way?

What we can assure you, without fear of being wrong, is that in the MotoUmami menu there will be ‘chicken teriyaki’, inspired by one of the biggest hits of Rosalía’s new album. And if we start reviewing the title of the rest of the songs, we get more ideas. Will the dessert be a ‘Bizcochito’ with ‘Candy’? We will know ‘really soon’. Until then, ‘saoko, papi, saoko’.
