Dr. Anthony Fauci said Wednesday that the coronavirus is better controlled in the United States, but the pandemic is not over and the challenge is how to improve the situation further. “We’re at a different time in the pandemic,” Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, said in an interview with The Associated Press. After a brutal winter surge, “we have now slowed down and moved into a more controlled phase,” she said. “In no way does that mean the pandemic is over.”
Health experts say people in the US’s COVID-19 hotspot, which includes cities like Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Binghamton, should step up their precautions. “These are areas where the CDC recommends that people wear a mask in closed public places due to an increasing level of serious illness and the potential for significant strain on health care,” Dr. Rochelle P. BA.2.12.1 was responsible for 29% of new COVID-19 infections nationally last week, according to data reported Tuesday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and caused 58 % of infections reported in the New York region. (Mercury-News)
KANE COUNTY: 136 new cases; total kills drop by 1; Case rates are higher than in October 2021
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Kane County increased by 136, but the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Kane County fell by one, according to data posted on the Department of Public Health website. from Illinois.
An adjustment in the totals published by IDPH is not uncommon. The coronavirus.illinois.gov The website has a daily note that says, “All numbers shown are provisional and subject to change.”
The death totals represent the number of Kane County residents who died, not the number of people who died in Kane County. So if a person died in a Kane County hospital and that person’s residence is later determined to be in another county, the death totals will be adjusted later, and that’s just one of many possible reasons why numbers are provisional and subject to change.
The totals for Kane County are 128,122 positive cases and 1,125 deaths from COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
As you can see in the IDPH “7-Day Moving Average Case Rate” chart above, Kane County cases continue to rise and are now at a higher level than they were in October and November.
STATE OF ILLINOIS: 3,434 new cases, 8 deaths statewide
The state of Illinois added 3,434 new cases of COVID-19, but only eight deaths in data reported by IDPH today.
State totals for COVID-19 to date are 3,128,134 positive cases and 33,592 deaths.
About 23% of ICU beds are available statewide. Hospital admissions diagnosed with COVID-19 continue to rise, with a seven-day rolling average of 45.
