COVID-19: Six New Cases Reported in Peterborough Area as Active Cases Jump to 18 – Peterborough | The Canadian News

Peterborough Public Health reported six new COVID-19 cases and a new workplace outbreak, according to data released Friday afternoon.

In its COVID tracker Update issued around 4:04 pm, the regional health unit reported 18 active cases, up from 13 reported on Thursday.

Other data from the health unit on Friday:

  • Sprouts: An outbreak was declared in the workplace Thursday at House instead on Charlotte Street. The company offers home care services for the elderly. There are now three cases associated with the outbreak. As of Friday, the health unit has dealt with 339 cases associated with 58 outbreaks since the beginning of the pandemic, an additional case since Thursday.
  • Cumulative confirmed cases: 1,913 since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.
  • Deceased: 24 – One death was reported over the weekend: a man in his 70s who was not vaccinated. It was the first reported death since September 10.
  • Variants of cases of concern: 1,128: Three more cases since Thursday’s update. The first variant case was reported on February 23 and the first confirmed Delta variant case was reported on June 19.
  • Resolved cases: 1871: one more case since Thursday. Resolved cases represent approximately 97.8% of all cases.
  • Close contacts: 41, up from 39 reported Thursday. A close contact is a person who is known to have had close contact with someone who was infected with COVID-19. People who are close contacts must self-isolate for 14 days from the last time they had contact with a person infected with COVID-19.
  • Hospitalizations: 90 cases have required hospitalization since the pandemic began. Peterborough Regional Health Center on Tuesday reported two COVID-19 admissions. Hospitalized cases represent approximately 4.7% of all cases; 19 of the cases required the intensive care unit. Admissions to the ICU represent one percent of all cases in the health unit since the start of the pandemic.
  • Exposure to COVID-19: 75.4% of all cases (1,442) in the jurisdiction of the health unit are due to contact with another existing case, 20% (383 cases) are related to community spread, 3.9% (75 cases ) are travel-related and 0.7% (13 cases) have yet to be determined.
  • Tests: More than 63,500 people have been tested for COVID-19, an additional 100 since Thursday’s update.
  • App: Since October 1, five charges have been filed against a total of three companies under the Ontario Reopening Act.

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, beginning at 2:37 pm Friday, reported two active cases between their schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit (the school board does not indicate whether the cases involve students or staff).

  • Orono Public School: Two cases. The school remains open

Peterborough Catholic District School Board Victoria Northumberland Clarington reported an active case at their schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit on Friday afternoon (the school board does not indicate whether the cases involve students or staff). The data may not match the health unit updates:

  • St. John Catholic Elementary School in Peterborough: One case, unchanged. The school remains open

Trent University reported no active cases at its Peterborough and Durham campuses on Friday afternoon. It says that 94 percent of students and 96 percent of employees are fully vaccinated and three percent of students and one percent of staff are partially vaccinated.

Fleming College has not reported any cases on its Peterborough campus.
