COVID-19: Saskatchewan’s Best Doctor Collapses While Introducing Modeling | The Canadian News

During a technical briefing on COVID-19 in Saskatchewan on Wednesday, Medical Health Director Dr. Saqib Shahab was excited to present the case model.

The modeling projects that if the current COVID-19 strain is “the worst”, declines and only takes three months to eliminate, around 20,000 procedures will be canceled and things will not return to “normal” until early 2022.

Shahab was talking about how people can act despite public health orders telling them to do so when she started crying.

“I think in the past, it is mentioned that Dr. Shahab only pleads with the public and does not issue an order. I am not ashamed to plead with the public that we have come this far and that we have to move on for the next few weeks or months. It is distressing to see what is happening in our ICUs and hospitals, ”Shahab said, fighting back tears.

When it was his turn to ask a follow-up question, a reporter asked if the doctor was okay.

A brief pause followed the journalist’s question.

“All the evidence is there and it is very disturbing to see young (and) healthy, unvaccinated people end up in ICU and die.”

Shahab added that he’s only watching this from a distance, but when talking about the burnout of healthcare workers, he said it’s frustrating to see young lives being lost to a vaccine-preventable disease.

“How can we accept this in a country that has had vaccines available to everyone since July?” Shahab said.

“Sorry if I’m being a bit unprofessional.”

The model presented by Shahab shows that the ICU levels of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan have reached an unsustainable level for the healthcare system.

Without public health measures and modeling projects, it could take more than four months to return to sustainable levels in the ICU. The number of ICU patients is also expected to increase without further public health orders.

Currently, there are no meeting limits set in Saskatchewan. There is a mask mandate for indoor public buildings.

Shahab declined to confirm whether he has recommended the government establish additional public health guidelines. He said it was up to the government to release that information.

Regardless of public health orders, Shahab recommended that people reduce close contacts. He also said that people should stay home even if they have mild symptoms and get tested.

In a statement to Global News, the Health Ministry said they have nothing more to add on whether Shahab has recommended more public health measures.

On Tuesday, Shahab confirmed that he was named in an alleged email threat that was reported to the Regina Police Service.

It is also alleged that Saskatchewan Prime Minister Scott Moe was named in the email.

Since then, RPS has charged 38-year-old Tobechi Okwuonu with two counts of threatening.
