COVID-19: Peterborough vaccination rate 84.1%; Fleming College face-to-face classes to resume in 2022 – Peterborough | The Canadian News

Peterborough Public Health reported another five new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, while vaccination rates continue to slowly increase.

In its COVID tracker Update issued around 4:35 pm, the regional health unit reported 30 active cases, compared to 27 reported on Tuesday and 25 on Monday.

The health unit publishes its weekly vaccination rate data on Wednesdays. The most recent data for your jurisdiction (Peterborough, Peterborough County, Hiawatha First Nation, and Curve Lake First Nation) include:

All eligible residents (ages 12 and older):

  • 87.1 percent had received a first dose of vaccine (versus 86.8 percent on November 3).
  • 84.1 percent had received a first and a second dose, fully vaccinated (versus 83.6 percent on November 3).

Adults (over 18 years old):

  • 87.1 percent had received a first dose of vaccine (versus 86.8 percent on November 3).
  • 84.3 percent had received a first and a second dose, fully vaccinated (versus 83.8 percent on November 3).

Youth (12 to 17 years old):

  • 86.9 percent had received a first dose of vaccine (versus 86.5 percent on November 3).
  • 81.3 percent had received a first and a second dose, fully vaccinated (up from 80.4 percent on November 3).

To date, the health unit reports that 231,596 doses of vaccine have been administered locally, an additional 956 doses since the November 3 update.

  • Sprouts: A workplace outbreak remains in effect in House instead on Charlotte Street. The company offers home care services for the elderly. Declared last Thursday, there are four cases associated with the outbreak. As of Wednesday, the health unit has dealt with 340 cases associated with 58 outbreaks since the start of the pandemic.
  • Cumulative confirmed cases: 1,935 since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.
  • Deceased: 24: The last death was reported on October 30.
  • Variants of cases of concern: 1,137 – one more since Tuesday’s update. The first variant case was reported on February 23 and the first confirmed Delta variant case was reported on June 19.
  • Resolved cases: 1,881: two more cases since Tuesday. Resolved cases represent approximately 97.4% of all cases.
  • Close contacts: 54, up from 49 reported Tuesday. A close contact is a person who is known to have had close contact with someone who was infected with COVID-19. People who are close contacts must self-isolate for 14 days from the last time they had contact with a person infected with COVID-19.
  • Hospitalizations: 90 cases have required hospitalization since the pandemic began. Peterborough Regional Health Center on Monday reported an active admission of COVID-19. Hospitalized cases represent approximately 4.7% of all cases; 20 of the cases required the intensive care unit, an additional case since Monday. Admissions to the ICU represent one percent of all cases in the health unit since the start of the pandemic.
  • Exposure to COVID-19: 75.3% of all cases (1,458) in the jurisdiction of the health unit are due to contact with another existing case, 20% (387 cases) are related to community spread, 3.9% (76 cases ) are travel-related and 0.7% (14 cases) have yet to be determined.
  • Tests: More than 63,850 people have been tested for COVID-19, 100 more since Tuesday’s update.
  • App: Since October 1, five charges have been filed against a total of three companies under the Ontario Reopening Act.

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, beginning at 10 am Wednesday, reported no active cases among its schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit.

Peterborough Catholic District School Board Victoria Northumberland Clarington reported no active cases in their schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit on Wednesday afternoon.

Trent University reported no active cases at its Peterborough and Durham campuses on Wednesday afternoon. It says that 94 percent of students and 96 percent of employees are fully vaccinated and three percent of students and one percent of staff are partially vaccinated.

Fleming College has not reported any cases on its Peterborough campus. On Wednesday, the university announced that classes and in-person services will resume in January 2022. The university will resume 50 programs and expand its offerings on campus “while ensuring that the health and safety of students, staff and faculty remain a priority. “

Applications are open for the winter semester and all courses will begin the week of January 10 at all Fleming campuses.

Campus amenities and services will also be available, including common learning resources, libraries, bookstores, food services, and sports and recreation centers.

“The residences on campus will operate at 100% capacity and the university will support owners in our communities who are interested in welcoming students to their rental properties,” said Fleming.

The university began the fall semester with virtual / online learning. In February 2021, the university was dealing with a major COVID-19 outbreak at the privately owned, off-campus Severn Court student residence that claimed the life of a student.
