COVID-19: Peterborough cases in hospital drop to 16; active laboratory-confirmed cases at 264 – Peterborough | The Canadian News

Peterborough Public Health has reported 52 new laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19, but a decrease in cases in the hospital over the past 24 hours, according to data released Friday afternoon.

The health unit’s COVID-19 tracker, issued at 4:33 p.m., reported the following data for the jurisdiction of Peterborough, Peterborough County, Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation:

Deaths: 51 since the pandemic was declared – unchanged since 2 February.

New PCR-confirmed cases: 52 since Thursday’s update.

PCR Laboratory Confirmed Active Cases: 264 – higher of 237 on Thursday and 249 on Wednesday. The Health Unit notes that the number of active cases reported is an “underestimation” due to changes in the availability of PCR tests effective on 31 December 2021.

Cumulative laboratory-confirmed cases: 5,117 since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.

Cases in the hospital: Peterborough Regional Health Center Friday afternoon reported 16 inpatients with COVID-19 – four off since Thursday. The hospital reports one patient transfer related to provincial prescriptions so far in 2022.

The health unit reported 185 cases in hospital on Friday since the start of the pandemic, two more since Thursday’s update, and 33 cases have been admitted to an intensive care unit since March 2020 (unchanged since Thursday).

Resolved cases: Another 25 since Thursday’s update. The 4,802 cumulative resolved cases make up about 94 percent of all laboratory-confirmed cases since the pandemic was declared.

Vaccination: Daily updates are posted on the COVID-19 tracker. Note that 325 707 doses have been administered since 26 January 2021. About 86.5 percent of eligible residents (ages five and older) have one dose, 82.2 percent have two doses, and 52.4 percent have three doses. Among youths from five to 11, 53.3 percent have a dose. In total, the health unit reports 122 290 residents received a first dose while 115 290 received two doses and 73 588 a third (booster dose).

Clinics / testing: The health unit is updating its list of clinics on its website offers first, second and third doses for adults and first doses for children aged five to 11 years. Walk-ins are available for any appropriate age or dose at the Healthy Planet Arena in Peterborough. All other sites require appointments to be booked Ontario’s online portal or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Discussion Call Center at 1-833-943-3900.

A number of pharmacies in and around Peterborough offer vaccinations to qualifying recipients. Appointments are required and can be made by calling the respective pharmacies or the Ontario Government Website.

Testing continues at Peterborough Regional Health Center’s assessment center at 1 Hospital Dr. More information on booking a test by the COVID-19 Assessment Center can be found on the health unit’s website.

The health unit also encourages parents to submit the results of students’ rapid antigen tests to help monitor situations in school environments. Results can be submitted online.

The health unit reported a new outbreak at a community housing facility in the city (No. 22).

  • Centenary long-term care in Millbrook: Declared January 14th. The home reported on January 28 three active cases among residents – down from six on Monday and eight reported on 19 January.
  • Peterborough Retirement Home: January 14 declared.
  • Kawartha Heights Retirement Living: January 14 declared.
  • Peterborough Regional Health Center: January 10 on the B4 inpatient unit.
  • Sherbrooke Heights Retirement Home in Peterborough: Declared 8 Jan.
  • Shared living facility (No. 9) in Peterborough: Declared 6 Jan.
  • Rubid Street Retirement Residence: Declared 2 Jan.
  • Shared living facility (No. 7): Declared 29 Dec.
  • St. Joseph’s by Fleming long-term care in Peterborough: declared 29 December. The hostel last released an update on January 25 that four active cases reported among residents. The house says the administration of the fourth vaccine program is underway.
  • Fairhaven long-term care in Peterborough: Declared on December 28, the House initially reported five personnel cases. On January 20, there were 16 cases (six residents, 10 staff). On January 26, however, the facility no active cases reported but the outbreak remains in force.
  • Riverview Manor long-term care in Peterborough: Declared 28 Dec.

There have been 836 cases (more 11 since Thursday’s update) related to 101 outbreaks since the pandemic was declared – 312 cases in the past 30 days and 28 cases over the past seven days.
