“Children are expected to return to personal school by the end of the month and will benefit greatly from vaccination,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health, said in the release.

“I appeal to all parents with children in this age group to make an appointment now for their child’s first dose if they have not yet been vaccinated, or for their second dose if they are eligible.”

Children from five to 11 years of age are eligible for their second dose of the vaccine as soon as eight weeks have elapsed since their first dose.

The province is also reminding adults to discuss their booster shots. Currently, anyone 18 years and older is eligible for a booster five months after the second dose.

Since January 10, more than 44,000 appointments for booster doses of an mRNA vaccine have been booked.
