Vancouver blues queen Dalannah Gail Bowen and hip hop / soul / R&B duo Lady Jams will perform a benefit concert for Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan) . The fundraiser, titled Voices for Hope, will take place at the Cultch Historical Theater.
CW4WAfghan, which has been operating since 1998, is a charity that promotes “the human rights of Afghan women and girls through access to education, distribution of basic needs to internally displaced persons, and assistance with efforts to provide safe passage for refugees. “
With the return of the ultra-conservative political and religious rule of the Taliban following the failure of the 1991-2021 war in Afghanistan, issues of women’s access to education and other aspects of gender equality are once again at the center of the country.
100 percent of the funds raised from this concert will be used to fund support for women fleeing the regime and the educational programs of CW4WAfghan. Women and girls are disproportionately affected by the humanitarian crisis in the nation.
