Conasami warns unions that they will not get increases higher than those granted to the minimum wage

The president of the National Commission of Minimum Wages (Conasami), Luis Munguía, affirmed that the unions that negotiate collective bargaining agreements with their companies will not be able to demand the same level of salary increase as the minimum salaries and that it will be 22% for next year.

Luis Munguía clarified that “the main objective of the minimum wage is to help workers who earn the least, only to benefit those who do earn the minimum wage.”

Hence, each year the increase is divided in two, on the one hand 9% direct and an amount in pesos, through the Independent Recovery Amount (MIR), which this year was 16.90 pesos for the entire country and 25.45 for the North Border Free Zone.

“When dividing it in this way, 9% is the increase that is being given to the minimum wage and to all those contracts where the minimum wage is mentioned as a bargaining measure, it only uses this 9% and the rest that is the MIR and not it must be used for this type of negotiation ”, he pointed out.

Regarding the impact that the increase will have, he said that the total labor cost of the companies is low.

“In the border area it is obviously higher. The impact that we have calculated it is 2.1%, the companies in the north are going to pay a little more because they have a much higher tax benefit, but it is possible that they absorb this cost and are not diminished in their configuration of the number of workers and their capital ”.

The president of Conasami explained that it will depend a lot on the size of the company, “in SMEs the impact is 3% (more benefits in terms of sales because most SMEs are dedicated to the domestic market) and large companies ( more than a thousand workers) is 0.3% ”.

He stressed that throughout the month of February operations and inspections will be carried out in different companies to be able to find who are the workers who are currently earning less than the minimum wage, next year and thus identify in which companies there may be some change.
