Colombian economy would grow up to 6% in 2022

After the Colombian economy registered its steepest fall in 2020 since there are growth series; and that in 2021 there will be a rebound that would leave the annual GDP close to two digits, for next year a growth that is close to the levels of the long-term product is expected, with GDP projections reaching 6 percent .

One of the highest estimates is that of Barclays Capital, which forecasts that the figure will be 6.3 percent. They are followed by Torino Capital, with an estimate of 5.50% and Corficolombiana, with 5 percent.

However, most projections are between 4% and 5%, where the figures predicted by Banco de la República (4.7%), Fedesarrollo (4.6%), Goldman Sachs (4.5%), Scotiabank Colpatria (4.4%) stand out. ), BBVA Research (4%) and JP Morgan (4%). While among the lowest estimates are those of Davivienda (3.4%), Bancolombia (3.6%) and Credicorp Capital (3.7 percent). As happened in 2021, trade is expected to continue to be a driver of the economy, although its contribution to GDP would moderate. It is also expected that there will be a greater participation of those sectors that were lagging in 2020 and in the recovery of 2021.

“The construction sector, although still lagging behind, is growing relatively well this year, due to a statistical effect. For next year we believe that the rates of activity will be better, ”said Camilo Pérez, head of economic research at Banco de Bogotá. On the demand side, it is expected that private consumption will begin to moderate and that investment will begin to return to pre-pandemic levels.
